You might have noticed that sedans and hatchbacks are not exactly the most fashionable models with new vehicle buyers these days. Few manufacturers have reacted to the changing market as boldly as Ford, which will eventually have only one car left in its ranks, which is the Mustang. It means the company's retail portfolio will soon be made up entirely of Ford SUVs and Crossovers, along with the Mustang and the F-Series pickup trucks.
What we have so far
There are plenty of new SUVs and crossovers
to come from Ford in the not-too-distant future, but at the moment the range of
2019 Ford SUVs and Crossovers consists of the 2019 Ford EcoSport, 2019 Ford
Escape, 2019 Ford Edge, 2019 Ford Flex, 2019 Ford Explorer and the 2019 Ford
Expedition. Let's take a look at what each one actually is.
2019 Ford EcoSport
The EcoSport is the smallest and the newest
crossover SUV in the current lineup, and it's a model that's actually been
available elsewhere in the world since as long ago as 2003. It's based on the
same platform as the Fiesta, and it's available in four different trim levels
of S, SE, SES and Titanium. The EcoSport S, which has a 123 horsepower
1.0-litre turbo-three under the hood that can be upgraded if you prefer to a
2.0-litre inline-four with 166 horsepower.
2019 Ford Escape
If you want something a little bigger than
the EcoSport the next step up on the Ford crossover is the Escape.
This one has now been in production for close to twenty years, and it's
available now in four trim levels of S, SE, SEL and Titanium. Most of the ones
you'll come across will have a 1.5-litre EcoBoost turbo-four that develops 179
horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque.
2019 Ford Edge
The Edge is the first midsize crossover in
the lineup, and it's a five-seat model that's been in production since 2006.
The Edge family includes SE, SEL, Titanium and ST models. If you want a genuine
performance crossover, the Edge ST boasts a fabulous twin-turbo V-6 with 335
horsepower to its name.
2019 Ford Flex
If you fancy a new Ford Flex, which is a
full-size crossover with unique styling and a huge amount of capability and
versatility, you’d better hurry to your dealer, because 2019 is the last year
of production of this particular model. Don’t worry, there will be plenty more
models coming along in its place.
2019 Ford Explorer
2019 is the last model year of the
fifth-generation Ford Explorer midsize crossover SUV, but unlike the Flex,
there is a new sixth-generation of the Explorer on the way. This means there's
a great opportunity to get a great deal on one of these excellent three-row
midsize SUVs that are available in XLT, Limited, ST and Platinum trims.
2019 Ford Expedition
The Expedition is the largest SUV in Ford's
current lineup, and the 2019 model is the second model year of what is now the
Expedition's fourth-generation. If you want a great big crossover that can do
just about anything you could want it to do, you'll struggle to find better
than the 2019 Expedition. It's available in XLT, Limited, Limited Max, Platinum
and Platinum Max models.
